There are still some artisan families from Tibet and Nepal who make beautiful, handmade, unique beads and ethnic jewelry.
The character and beauty of the older beads cannot be replicated. Most of these beads are over 200 years old, and are very rare, so limited quantities are available. Amber is a pre-historic material that was once liquid tree sap now solidified. It is fifty million years old, and the beads were carved well over two hundred years ago, The Naga shell beads were traded to Tibet well over 100 years ago.... Carnelian is no longer being mined in Tibet. It is also at least 100 years old.
These families are highly skilled and have been making handmade pieces for many generations. Their skills, however, are disappearing due to lack of opportunity.
Unfortunately, these beads are no longer being worn in their country of origin except in very remote villages, as more and more people dispense with traditional dress and decoration in favor of modern, Western attire.
It is due to the changing times that these pieces have become available to us now. Each piece is a wonderful find and something to be treasured for the ages.
We hope you love these pieces as much as we do, and that they will add a unusual, special touch to your personal style or artistic creations.
